Democrats on the congressional Joint Economic Committee released a report Thursday detailing how much more the average American family in every US state is having to spend monthly to cover the rising costs of food, shelter, energy, and other necessities under the leadership of President Donald Trump. The panel released its report on the same day the Trump administration was supposed to…

Why do you think prices can’t go any higher? They most definitely can and will in the coming months.
If you think they can’t go any higher you’re in for a rude awakening in the next few months.
now that i’m actually aware of this whole boom and bust cycle…i’ll be honest…kind of pissed off
it’s so obvious what they’re trying/about to do…
🙄 I live in my own basement, thanks.
I wonder what my distant uncle who said Trump made him richer would think about this. I think he was referring to the three tiny stimulus checks he got during the pandemic. Oh well, he voted for this.
Those three fucking checks are why we’re here in the first place. It added trillions in debt to us, gave people “free” money during a time of low rates, and then put in place the giant rubber-band that is inflation because when you have that much money suddenly injected in the market capitalism dictates that you raise prices since people can afford it.
I was saying this is going to fuck us when trump did them the first time and yet still people act like Biden is the one that put us here.
It added closer to 800 billion-ish, not trillions.
But I agree with some of the wider points.
Yeah no mention to massive block and categorical grants to states to make up for the 43% loss in revenue. But $1800 (800b) caused it. And not the trade wars, gestapo ICE or tariffs.
Gtfoh with this shit
Yeah it was those three checks, and not the massive block and categorical stimulus to states and corporations that dwarfed those up to 10x in size (and actually led to a fairly soft landing post Covid.)
Get this shit lib stuff out of here. And you’re not even that good at it. From a shit lib perspective, those actually made the situation not so bad. Trumps trade wars, foreign policy and gestapo are why we are here today. Full stop.
You sound like a confused paint eating MAGA
$800b in personal stimulus>4-5T in corporate and government stimulus, per you… wtaf
Never said those other things aren’t what helped get us here. That’s why I gave the broader number of trillions and not just billions.
Also, you’re calling me a MAGA when you’re the one actively defending a trump policy and decision… I’ve got two years of profile history that shows I’m not MAGA, you’ve been on here 5 days.
When you give out “free” money whether to people or to corporations and you don’t continue it and only do it as a one time you effectively create inflation. Lots of people NEEDED money during the pandemic, and I’m not against that. It’s the culmination of multiple government hand outs to people and corporations with no active thought put into what they’re trying to do that creates a loaded system.
It’s a fucking comment thread my dude. I’m not diving in with whole ass articles and a research paper just to make some fucking thread noob happy because he think I’m someone I’m not.
Where did I defend a Trump policy? I implied Biden led us to a soft landing…
And yeah sure you are blaming the individuals and not the massive corps who received literally 10x the amount of stimulus as your corporate buddies.
And maybe you’re playing a long astroturfed game? Who knows. Doesn’t make your view any more relevant or factual.
And you’re right, you said the checks are what led us here, and the other 4.2 trillion “helped” that 800 billion raise inflation… oooookaaay budddyyy.
Yeah but how much are eggs?
I voted Trump because I trust him with the economy over that woman.
yeah, a BROWN WOMAN! NO!
Average Trump voter would be cold, hungry, and sleeping in a gutter and still not admit they made a mistake.
This quote has stayed with me for years now:
“The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.”
Your face is delicious.

People in this thread are not picking up on the sarcasm here…
I have a box of /s’s, going cheap…
Kind of a trend on lemmy, I’m noticing…
Which is weird, because with Lemmy’s small community, all it took was a glance at the username for me to go, “Oh, I know SatansMaggotyCumFart, they’re cool. Which means that comment was definitely sarcasm.”
I downvoted you because your blatant sarcasm wasn’t punctuated with a “/s”, so there was a 0.007% chance you were being sincere.
How is it blatant sarcasm when it’s literally what magas say?
Context maybe, and a bit of critical thinking?
Look at the subject of the thread, and look at what they said. It’s clearly not something a MAGA on Lemmy would post in response to a news article critical of Trump, but a parody of what a MAGA would have said that led to the situation being described by the article.
But shit, for whatever reason people on Lemmy see a few downvotes, immediately take that as evidence that it’s a serious comment, and don’t give it a second thought. It’s all over the place here.
/s is cheap and avoids any confusion.
It’s clearly not something a MAGA on Lemmy would post in response to a news article critical of Trump
I see you’ve not met my uncle.
I have not. But if they are on Lemmy, share their username and I’ll get some popcorn lol
let’s play a game: which will come first? civil unrest, 2% interest rates or midterm elections?
we’re not the only ones playing that game.
Can I wait till after Q3 earnings are in? Ubisoft gave me a chub.
But I need two Rivians! I’m not sharing with Caitlin!
No kidding.
I’ve managed to mostly keep my grocery bill down by buying more raw ingredients to supplement my garden and making stuff at home in bulk.
But I doubt that will continue now that the garden is done. I’m still waiting on the Trump Famine to hit since he’s been constantly fucking up the agriculture sector. I’m not sure what the timing of it will be, but he seems to be intentionally trying to bring back the conditions described in the Grapes of Wrath.
In my yard I’ve planted 7 fruit trees and 8 berry bushes. And I’m building 200 Sq ft of raised beds, and another 400 sq ft of non raised bed garden. (Right now I have 100 sq ft) And I’m still planning arbors to grow Kiwi Berries and grapes. And I’m building a chicken coop today for 4 chickens. But all that probably won’t sustain my family for 3-5 years when the trees and bushes finally start hitting fuller production.
I’m still waiting on gas and electricity bills to go up. So far gas is staying steady and electricity has only gone up 10% compared to the 20+% I’m seeing reported other places.
But I’m also probably going without health insurance next year because premiums went up 300 a month, and I fully can’t afford that.
That garden sounds pretty good. A lot of people can’t really help themselves like this though, because they live in city houses or apartments without land, and/or they’re working long hours and don’t have the time.
Yeah I agree.
I was already doing this for fun before the 2024 election. It suddenly got more practical than I’d like. I originally started it to stock a small free pantry, and now it’s stocking my own.
It’s also why I’m expanding it, because I expect even worse times ahead. If you can, I’d start one, because it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I’m on an urban lot that’s like 1/7 an acre. I just get full sun on nearly all of it, except what’s shaded by the house. (More than 4/5ths of it). Part of the reason I planted the trees was to shade the house. It came with 0 trees, now there are 9.
Most of my neighbors couldn’t replicate this garden even if they wanted to because they don’t get nearly the same full sun coverage. An east west road deadends into my yard, leading me to get morning sun hours earlier than my neighbors, and they have mature trees shading most of thier lots.
I’ve noticed
Someone is wining, but it ain’t you.
$700 more PER MONTH? Where do people take the money from?
Credit card bankruptcies are climbing.
I’m putting a lot on credit. 1600 rent 1000 daycare 800 food 1000 car (payment + charging + ins. $4400 a month for basics. I make 5k to 6k a month. I don’t make enough for regular things.
Mostly people accumulate debt in the US.
The same place Uber drivers get it from: their existing assets by way of unreturned value, resulting in ever decreasing net worth and increased debt.
I’m surprised how big the difference between states, $269 in OK to $1,030 in UT
I’m in UT and I felt like I’ve just been fucking up my finances… I didn’t realize it’s an actual thing happening to me.
oh, you are probably fucking up your finances too, but capitalism is f’n it up more than you are ;-)
100% 😹
…and people wonder why no one has hobbies anymore
That feels about right.
Yah, but Biden had the worst economy ever, and Pedonald is just trying to dig out from all the terribleness.
🙄
Democrats claim Republicans… They should have stated with that lol.
Used the republican methodology to assess impact? Cause they legit used the same one Republicans designed for Biden. Surely thats truthful, right?
They both are not truthful.
