Missouri will probably happily give up its share of Kansas City, though. Plus, if they set up toll roads, they won’t need taxes.

Eastern California, Oregon, Washington, and a big chunk of Idaho would want to be in the same state.

I know this is mostly a joke, but I do think California is too big for its own good. Splitting it into Northern California, Southern California, and Eastern California (rename as needed) seems to make sense to me: it gives Eastern Californians a voice in the Senate, while also giving a separate voice to SF vs LA. I’m sure this would cause all sorts of other problems I’m not aware of, but what solution doesn’t?

The issue with the current U.S. federal setup is that rural communities are massively over-represented in the Senate.

1 senator in Montana represents around 650,000 people

1 senator from California represents 19.4 million people.

Should have an island in Alaska and Hawaii as well better give them all the water between the two states just to be fair.

From what I’ve learned about eastern California, they have more in common with (parts of) Alabama than one might think.

Not sure Mobile, AL would go along with this though; A wonderful place unfortunately surrounded by dearth.
