Missouri will probably happily give up its share of Kansas City, though. Plus, if they set up toll roads, they won’t need taxes.
Anyone wondering what CA gives up in this proposal, see GTA5’s Trevor as an example.
We jerrymandering state borders now?
Stay the hell out of Malibu, goldbrickers!
That cut better be coming out of Wyoming. They’re not fucking using it.
If states were drawn like congressional districts.

Eastern California, Oregon, Washington, and a big chunk of Idaho would want to be in the same state.
I know this is mostly a joke, but I do think California is too big for its own good. Splitting it into Northern California, Southern California, and Eastern California (rename as needed) seems to make sense to me: it gives Eastern Californians a voice in the Senate, while also giving a separate voice to SF vs LA. I’m sure this would cause all sorts of other problems I’m not aware of, but what solution doesn’t?
The issue with the current U.S. federal setup is that rural communities are massively over-represented in the Senate.
1 senator in Montana represents around 650,000 people
1 senator from California represents 19.4 million people.
The biggest problem is that we wouldn’t have a nice round 50 any more!
Makes about as much sense as Maryland’s shape. I say go for it.
Should have an island in Alaska and Hawaii as well better give them all the water between the two states just to be fair.
I feel like the should also be a sliver in Alaska too

Welcome to the sweet home calabama
From what I’ve learned about eastern California, they have more in common with (parts of) Alabama than one might think.
Not sure Mobile, AL would go along with this though; A wonderful place unfortunately surrounded by dearth.
Not to mention Kansas city and Memphis which would also be a part of this state. It would probably be more urban than average considering it would encompass both of these major cities.

They do. Rural California is FULL of rednecks. They’re just outnumbered by the rest of us.
That’s every state, though.
It is, but California is such a populous state we have several red states’ worth of rednecks here.
our rednecks are extra severe, desert rednecks….
it takes a special kind of person to decide to move into a desert… or to stay in oneDesert Rats
Cousin eddy?
How do they compare to swamp rednecks and Appalachia rednecks?

Same is true for rural WA, and I’m guessing every other state.
I live in California and I’ve heard the words “Eastern California” in this thread more times than I’ve ever heard it in my life.
We’re only about 3-4 hours wide I say North and South are fine. Maybe two North’s for the reason you said.
Not a fan of Mobile myself. I think I have a weird prejudice because it reminds me of Oklahoma City. Beats hell out of Birmingham though!
I might be biased from being a european who had only heard about the stereotypes, but was positively surprised when having to spend a week there.
