When your heritage is hate, be prepared to have it denied.
virginian here
keep it. that flag didn’t represent us when it was flying over our state. especially in my part of virginia support for the restored virginia movement and the union was high. the daughters of the Confederacy started remixing history as early as the 1880 to manipulate people into misunderstanding their own family legacy.
the virginia legislature’s conservative position when jesse ventura was governor was the result of a century long project to disenfranchise, gerry-mander, and manipulate people out of having any meaningful support for progressive causes. we are still pulling out of that to the point that this year we had to choose between a Black nazi and a CIA agent for governor

Governor Jesse Ventura and a colleague
I wonder how people would’ve reacted if you told them that both of these gentlement will be state governors
Hahah, sure thing buddy and some washed up reality show star will be the president 🤣
I mean, if they could’ve taken care of governing 1/10 as much of their bodies compared to some others… /s Somewhat. *ETA I just enjoy the overall general positivity and goodwill of responses in this section of Lemmy instances
I imagine they had way more control over their bodies than an entire state government
Also, didn’t the guy that played Billy run for governor of Nebraska or something?
Kentucky, yeah.
I ain’t got time to bleed
It’ll make you a god damn sexual tyrannosaurus
… you got time to duck?
It’s an unusual choice for Virginia to celebrate getting its ass kicked but we all celebrate heritage differently. Minnesota, for instance, remembers success.
And all governor’s before and after Jessie Ventura have also not given it back. It’s ours

Jesse Ventura is a good one. He also tried to start a wrestler union.
On a related note, fuck Hulk Hogan.
Please don’t fuck a corpse.
Also a conspiracy nut who convinced teen me I was gonna be crippled by a vax when they sent out TheSignalTM … But i mean… Yeah better than Hogan I guess.
Odd opportunity for an ethics good vs bad exercise. With a weirdly unique career history to boot.
