An interesting thing to note before people get upset: this is literally one dude with a megaphone while Good’s vigil had thousands.

In a million years I couldn’t come up with a more poetic representation of USA’s political atmosphere: one angry white guy with a microphone and a wall of bulletproof vests against thousands of people unified in the cold dark night.

It’s crazy that the line between good and evil is getting comically obvious: the David vs the Goliath, the weak vs the strong, the murdered vs the murdurers, the (bulk) of the people vs the elite.

Why not? Genuine question. Keep in mind, ML are not communist. Soviet Russia wasn’t communist. China and North Korea aren’t communist. Communist != authoritarian.

Most social liberals aka progressives and actual communist would agree on most things socially. Which is the important bit. Economics can be debated. As long as we agree on social/personal liberty. I’m okay with debating and defending my ethos on how we should get there.

It all depends on the context in which it’s used. In mixed company in real life, I likely wouldn’t use either term. Simply because of the propaganda misunderstanding it would cause. Some specific contexts like this, though. There’s no better way to disarm the fascists than to acknowledge that you are. And that they are using words that they don’t know the meaning of. Though in that situation you best be prepared to be factual and come correct in correcting them. Staying cool and on point as they start foaming and melting down like the petulant children they are.

In a generally left friendly space like the fediverse. Why not use the terms if you’re going to use them correctly? While there is some of the built-in propaganda bias against them still. People are generally more open to them. The fact is. Whatever terms you choose to use. The authoritarians will come for them too. And if we flee those terms and adopt new language. It doesn’t stop the them. It just hampers our efforts to organize and educate. That and the pyrrhic ML downvotes are badges of honor.

You’re here on a communist-dominated platform, so IMHO you are kinda associated with them a little bit at least. But I think it says something good that you’re participating in direct action against the social media oligopoly that helped create this mess. Most of us forget that context from time to time, and it can get really hostile because we’re all angry about these events.

Actions speak louder than words, and particularly louder than labels. From that video dude’s perspective everyone here is in the same boat.

It is, in terms of simplistic internet slang “neoliberal” is a generalized insult. It has little to nothing to do with the actual ideology.

Did you support ACA/Obamacare over single payer? You might be a neoliberal.

Do you think student loans should be on income based repayment plans instead of forgiven? You might be a neoliberal.

Do you only favor government intervention in “free markets” when the US invades a sovereign nation or attempts to enforce NAFTA like trade deals? You might be neoliberal.

If you answered yes to any of these questions, please see your doctor today and ask if reading a book is right for you.

Thanks for demonstrating that you, in fact, do not know what “neoliberal” means. This post is truly embarrassing. It’s obvious that to you, neoliberal only means “what I disagree with”.

Did you support ACA/Obamacare over single payer? You might be a neoliberal.

Supporting the ACA doesn’t make one a neoliberal. The accusation just doesn’t make sense and makes it clear “neoliberal” is just a generalized bad word for you.

What do you support? No health care coverage at all? You immature morons act like Obama had an option for universal healthcare when he was barely able to get the ACA through. It made a lot of key changes and expanded coverage to tens of millions.

But that’s bad? A marked improvement is worthless because it’s not perfect. That’s FUCKING STUPID.

Do you think student loans should be on income based repayment plans instead of forgiven? You might be a neoliberal.

Again, no relation to the political/economic theory of neoliberalism.

IBR can be supported for any number of reasons and Biden pushed loan forgiveness.

Do you only favor government intervention in “free markets” when the US invades a sovereign nation or attempts to enforce NAFTA like trade deals? You might be neoliberal.

Nothing about “invading a sovereign nation” is inherent to neoliberalism. Once again, you don’t know what you’re talking about.

What’s the opposition to trade deals?

Yeah because “Communists” are delusional morons living in a fantasy world. And apparently think people don’t deserve such basic freedoms as choosing your line of work.

Apparently they also think conservatives are better than whatever the fuck they think “neoliberals” are.

I would suggest you to read up about different communist movements.

Because most of them (not all!) are absolutely in favour of giving you more freedom to choose how you labour or whether you labour at all.

“communism” is about as diverse ideologically as the neoliberal-liberal-social democrat spectrum.
