(FYI - the article that the guy is replying to is misinformation. Two commenters have provided snopes links for anyone curious.)
If trans people and Adderall people are outlawed then there will be no tech industry left.
Oops, this is some misinformation, friend. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/rfk-wellness-farms/
Exaggerated claims designed to provoke a reaction, even in humorous contexts like this, make it harder for us to perceive and react to actual dangerous threats that might come our way. And we’re definitely going to need to have an accurate and truthful view of the world in the coming days.
It’s a good joke, it’s a great joke even, but even so, we shouldn’t spread misinformation.
Tfw you say something and everyone hates it and then someone else comes by and says the same thing in a slightly different way and everyone likes it 😑
Its a difference in rhetoric. Yours is antagonistic and the others is measured and fair.
If it’s fake news (and it is) then I have every right to say, “Get this fucking bullshit off my feed” (my actual response was quite a bit more measured than that). I shouldn’t have to be like, “Haha! Oh that’s so funny, you’re really smart and clever! Oh, but, fyi, that’s kinda misinformation, just so you know!”
Would you rather listen to the blunt truth or to a friendly lie? If it’s the latter, then that ought to be called out as well as the original point - falling for a fake news story is entirely excusable, but being unwilling to listen to criticism unless it’s phrased nicely and defanged is not.
Shit like this is part of why I use term “Blue MAGA,” because you’ll find the exact same mentality over there. The facts don’t matter, if you don’t demonstrate you’re one of us, we’ll write you off anything you say. Critical thought means listening to criticism, even if it’s, “antagonistic.”
Well I was trying to be simplistic but since you typed so much, the reason your message isnt received well is because you assume Ill intent by the OP, while the one getting up votes makes no assumptions about intent.
Technically theirs is more accurate because they are acknowledging they can’t know the original intent, while you are arguing that its obvious what their intent is.
I said literally nothing about their intent in my comment whatsoever.
Yes its implied, evidenced by the people down voting you. Thats how rhetoric works. Same message, different delivery.
No, I implied nothing. The other person went out of their way to assuage people that just because they were calling out misinformation didn’t mean they’re not on their side - I just stated facts without making any indication about what I thought of OP’s intent. Loyalty and tribalism come before truth. People posting false information have to be reassured that you think they’re great before you correct them. It’s ridiculous.
That’s on you, the .ml in your name means that everything you say is wrong even when you say the truth.
Learn how to lemmy /s
I was posting more for the funny reply, rather than to share the original article, but I can put a note in the post body that the pictured quoted article is misinformation.
Thanks for adding the note! :)
What an absolute asshole of a journalist you have to be to twist someone’s words like that.
Idk, I’m sure that many politicians aren’t advocating for LGBTQ youth to be “sent” to conversation camps.
This comment won’t age well.
“No no bro, it’s going to be totally voluntary, trust me, just watch as we offer it as an alternative to prison, and then criminalize things like ‘taking adderall’.”
So your prediction is that the Trump administration is going to be rounding up people on adderall and sending them to camps.
Yes or no — is this what you believe?
The Trump administration’s intention is to criminalize certain behavior with plausible deniability that amounts to nothing more than an excuse to put specific people on psychiatric meds whom they want to put in these proposed work camps, in work camps. While ‘labor’ or ‘profit’ might be involved, the essential function will be, if seen through successfully, simply to hurt those who they think they can, like all fascists.
Okay so I’ll rephrase my question. I would appreciate a YES or a NO response here.
Do you think the Trump administration is going to create work camps and pick people to send there against their will?
Yes, I certainly think they’re going to try, considering they’ve literally and explicitly stated they’re going to create work camps, the flurry of promises of revenge, of unlawful deportation, and their history with shipping US citizens off without regard for silly things like ‘law’, ‘precedent’, or ‘rights’.
Do you think they’re not going to try literally exactly what they’ve said they’re going to do?
As well as the average American.
Hopefully the concentration camp helps me with my ADHD if he kicks me off adderall /s
He tried so hard.
And got so far!
So in the end, it did mattered
Classic
I see what you did there
That article is kinda garbage. Here’s its source material: https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2024/07/rfk-jr-wants-to-send-people-on-antidepressants-to-government-wellness-farms/
On the farms, he said, residents would grow their own organic food—which would help them recover from addiction,
These people are going to starve to death. It’s difficult enough to farm when you want to farm.
Yeah, this is literally a page out of Mao’s Great Leap Forward.
cambodian year zero, more like. depending on how dedicated they’ll be
Maybe they just need… motivation.
Not exactly. My ADHD has only one good use… I am amazing at dealing with worst case scenarios and in fact thrive in them. I will always find a way to do something, survive and enjoy it. I had more fun in Japan when I was broke after I lost my scholarship than I was before I did. I rode a busted old bike with flat tires everywhere, I found ways to scrounge for food, I survived odd of a bag of flour and snuck my mom into my dorm. I have no interest in normal day to day easy life. Put me in the wilderness and make me kill my food.
One or two people would be doing all the work while the others would be complaining the whole time.
Don’t worry, they’ll have all the most advanced GMO crops, pesticides, and fertilizer. The plants will grow no matter what you do. Whether you want to eat them or not is an open question.
I highly doubt RFK Jr. is in favor of GMOs.
I’m pretty sure this is just a farm labor program to replace the migrants they’re deporting. So he isn’t really going to have a say.
I mean, it’s RFK Jr. I doubt he would even be able to identify real organic fertilizers anyway. If he were to inspect a site and see fertilizers, even organic fertilizer in bags, he’s probably tell them to throw it out and just just rely on the unamended soil. He would then go home and eat over priced Whole Foods produce that may or may not be honest about the organic label.
“farms”, like the one they sent Rover to.

The Mother Jones article presents this as a quote from RFK where he does use the word “farm”. The context of the article is a virtual “Latino town hall” event, so I assume that’s where he said the following:
I’m going to create these wellness farms where they can go to get off of illegal drugs, off of opiates, but also illegal drugs, other psychiatric drugs, if they want to, to get off of SSRIs, to get off of benzos, to get off of Adderall, and to spend time as much time as they need—three or four years if they need it—to learn to get reparented, to reconnect with communities.
Wouldn’t this include Musk ?
and Trump.
No exceptions.
Just imagine some insane takeover by RFK hahahhaha
He’s on a crusade to get rid of anything with more than one ingredient, including people.
he should start with himself.
he’s at least .01% worm and 99.99% shit.
Trump has actually been pictured at his desk, forgetting to hide his stimulant medications
Of course not, only people on this side of the legal system
We are already in the concentration camp for irrepressible oligarchs, its called Earth. We are the grease trap for souls in the Universe and all the shitheads congealing on this planet enables the alien races to remain pure from the constant drag and grind of fostering chuds among them.
If this was true it would at leave give me some semblance of peace while I await my merciful end.
Then why haven’t they rescued the non-selfish people who were born here? Even the worst asylums review to see if people still need to be there.
I think we’re just ballast to keep the chuds from sinking into the oblivion of their own dark hearts but at this point they’ve overgrown our ability to contain them and now we need to let them destroy everything in order to educate themselves.
White blood cells overwhelmed by the pathogen
Correct, evacuate!
No no no he’s microdosing LSD it’s different and cool
As a person with ADHD, let me just volunteer the following information; the absolute last thing you want… the last thing you want is for a bunch of people with ADHD to be held on a boring farm. Without medication!
The phrase “herding cats” doesn’t even come close. And ADHD is often comorbid with sleep phase disorder, which means I’m 100% alert all night without the medication that helps me sleep! That gives me lots and lots of time to be a problem!
"Have you tried touching grass and just like, focusing really hard?" - RFK Jr
Grass sucks, I’d rather touch moss.
Idk… I feel like we’d really want to revolt, but would keep procrastinating.
there’s nothing more productive than a group of ADHD people working together for something they want lol
Nah, ADHD+spite=hyperfocus and productivity.
it’s a surefire way to either spark a revolution or end all life on the fuckin planet
I dunno, the added phrase, “if they want to,” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
I imagined they were inferring like “if you’re taking Adderall we need your hyper efficient ass to come work on building a pyramid or something”. Which i have to say, a team of properly medicated ADHDers would be the most streamlined project ever.
They missed it because they were already taking liberties on what was actually said.
To be clear, I wouldn’t put it past him to do that, but that isn’t actually what he said.
TL;DR: voluntary “rehabilitation wellness farms”
Yeah sorry should have been more clear I suppose. The narrative they’re trying to perpetuate is that nobody is ill and all of the prescription drugs are unnecessary, and that all the people taking medication for their illnesses really just want to be off of it but have no ability.
Realistically, yeah he’s going to build the camps, and then it’s a very short hop skip and a jump to court orders putting people there.
To be honest they should just do an opinion piece saying exactly what we know he’s going to do. We don’t need him to pretend that’s exactly what he said.
This is a pretty cool example of media bias distorting facts in order to cause kind of a Shiri’s Scissor scenario in the reader based on where they get their news. Liberal source gives an inaccurate, more interpretive story based on what is already known about the parties involved. I’d wager a more conservative source would just give a direct statement of what RFK said here, which sounds fairly reasonable if you have no bias against the man and his team. Discussing this point becomes incredibly controversial between the groups because we have opposing interpretations of the same event, and it’s difficult to come to any understanding without breaking many things down into smaller parts.
All this is to say I agree, it should have been an opinion piece. It’s dishonest as it is now and would only cause friction, confusion, and raised hackles. We know how troubled teen camps fail kids, and what happens when bad people have power over vulnerable people. The writing is on the wall, but it’s not clear for all of us. Be less inflammatory and more informative, is what I think news should be.
Repeating what is said and not interpreting what is meant is how they came to power.
Well, that and lying about what the other side is saying…
With that many farms youre gonna need alot of showers. I know I can focus really good after a quick shower.
Once the farms are built I wonder how long they’ll stay voluntary. He’s taking baby steps to a massive slave labor industry
Man who frequently lies is misquoted in a way that is more in line with what he probably meant based on previous statements and actions.
I’m not surprised.
Lol my company’s entire development department will be gone.
So far all of the orange appointments are looking like videogame minibosses
Sign me up to be player one then so I can go full Wolfenstein on these Nazi assholes
I get the anger, but this idea wouldn’t be out of place in European countries like Netherlands and Portugal. Drug rehabilitation is a positive, left wing policy.
The same RFK Jr. who credits heroin for his academic success.
Some people do actually initially start using opiates as a performance enhancer. Thats not really a crazy take. I know people with similar stories in the first months of their use, before the negatives started outweighing the positives.
He’s in the closet about his own mental health issues, one of which is likely him being ADHD AF.
So like the closeted gay politicians being the harshest proponents of things like conversion therapies, anti-lgbtq views and legislation, the closeted mental-health-problem asshole is anti-actual-medical-treatment of everything, like anti-vax, anti-adderall, etc.
Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit Ritalin! Not that it matters, 99% of us are getting fucked to some depth. Disadvantaged people first, then minorities and women, as is custom.
Good luck managing us.
Like herding catgirls.
Bro taking out Cheryl Hines?
I used to think so highly of her before I found out
I thought this was a post about The Mask
Sssssssssmokin’!
Meth, because Adderall is illegal and incredibly hard to get.
