Do not put your phone away. Stay informed and organized. Ignorance will ruin lives and kill innocents. We have power, indifference causes all our ailes.

It’s funny how people are like “when I use my phone I feel depressed with all that his happening”, as if the phone is what is making them happen.

The truth is, the problems were always present, and it’s simply more apparent now. We were always depressed, but it was easier to ignore it when it wasn’t being weaponized via social media devices and used to divide us by the wealthy. Help fix the problem of your neighbors and those beneath you, the wealthy would prefer us not willing to fight together, easier to conquer.

I don’t get how people have these sort of issues with devices? What are you doing on your phone that’s so ‘harmful’ to you?

Turning off almost all notifications, running adblock , and ditching social media (except Lemmy, if that counts) , seems to really limit the damage.

Engaging with stuff I want to engage with and not what the algorithm decided to shove down my throat today has been going pretty well for me the past couple of years. Reddit was the last algorithm driven social media I used, so now it’s just whatever of that mess leaks into fedi spaces.

People want to pretend that making themselves read bad news like it’s a full time job makes a difference or makes them more morally correct or something, but really it’s a form of self harm that keeps them from acting. Unless analyzing the news is literally your job, nobody needs more than like an hour or two a day, absolute max. Fill those other hours in the day with something good for yourself or other people.
