VPN cause you can bind to it.
I use Mullvad. You can pay with monero and you don’t need to provide any info, no email, phone, or even a username or password. It just generates an account number that serves as your login.
Mullvad doesn’t support port forwarding anymore. That means you will only be able to connect to people that do have port forwarding.

It really doesn’t matter. Proxies are usually configure at the application level while VPNs at the system level.
For torrenting I really don’t think “dns leaking” is really a problem. So as long as they both encrypt your torrenting traffic they’re both doing the same thing.
