Ryan Walters, the Oklahoma schools chief who mandated that all schools teach the Bible, was caught watching porn in his office.

I dunno. Feels like a prank. If it was actually him, he probably would have been saying things like “how did that happen” and all the usual bs. Instead he was thinking of how he was going get revenge on the person who did it. And the most damning peice of evidence… I doubt he knows how to connect that screen to the internet.

this seems like the most plausible answer, though I predict you won’t get highly upvoted since this isn’t really what we want to hear.

Truth. Though without having interacted with the guy I can’t know if he fits the mold of people like him. He could be an outlier. But I guess the other people could be lieing too. It’s really all a crapshoot.
And at the end of the day, I don’t care if he watches porn or even what kind of person he is. I care about his impact on the children under his care. Everything else is a distraction.

I dunno. He accused the board members who pointed it out of lying. If he had nothing to hide, why say they’re lying? Why not just say “I have no idea how this happened”? The only alternative explanation I can think of for accusing them is that maybe he’s paranoid?

Having grown up in the ultra-conservative puritan world, with its absurd and unhealthy levels of sexual repression, I would be genuinely surprised if this guy wasn’t regularly consuming porn. And he’s a millennial, so I wouldnt be at all surprised by him knowing how to connect a screen…

Well, guys like that can be almost allergic to anything that implies they are not in complete control of everything around them. And of course he learned from trump to just claim anyone against him is lieing.

The connection thing was really just a joke. No way to know if he might know how to do that.

Presumably because “I have no idea how this happened” sounds even more like guilt than “you’re lying.” You are looking at two pretty similar responses IMO and saying there’s a wold of difference between them.

    LOL

Carson said the images caught her eye during the meeting. “And I was like, ‘Those are naked women,’” she said. "And then I was like, ‘No, wait a minute. Those aren’t naked, surely those aren’t naked women. Something is playing a trick on my eye. Maybe they just have on tan body suits. … This is just really bizarre.’

“I saw them just walking across the screen, and I’m like, ‘no.” I’m sorry I even have to use this language, but I’m like, ‘Those are her nipples.’ And then I’m like, ‘That’s pubic hair.’ What in the world am I watching? I didn’t watch a second longer. … I was so disturbed by it, I was like, ‘What is on your TV?’ I was very stern, like I’d been a mother or a classroom teacher. And I said, ‘What am I watching? Turn it off now!’”

This is like the reaction you would get from Calvinists during the Victorian era.

These people literally still live in the mindspace of the 1800’s.

Most porn is much much more wholesome and tame than the pestilence, genocide, fratricide, infanticide, racism, sexism, and slavery that is recommended by that disgusting ignorant book

No I was just hoping “Bible Bad, upvotes to the Left” was something we could outgrow BEFORE we graduate high school.

It’s not a matter of respecting beliefs but of looking like an adult.

Considering the political and social leanings of the typical Lemmy user, I think you’re going to be repeatedly disappointed looking for people who think the Bible is a good thing. In any modern and halfway decent society, yes, Bible is bad. Recognizing that something is shit isn’t an ability restricted to children.

I don’t know what you’re complaining about the only people that ever read the Bible are atheists. It’s kind of hard not to be by the end of it. The religious type cherry pick their Bible verses and ignore the bits they don’t like.

Atheism is fine. It’s when you insist that every instance and utterance of religion is evil and can’t help but to bash Christianity every chance you get.

I’m literally not even a Christian, I’m not offended. I just am so tired of these tropes, they were lame on reddit and they’re lame here

This is an article about a man who spends his professional life, and position of power within the education system, to force his religion onto the public. This is where you should expect criticisms of his religion.

Co-worker of mine thought it was a real big “get” to call MSNBC “MSLSD”. I think he about blew a gasket when I told him I wasn’t all that interested in corporate/conservative news outlets like “MSLSD”, either.

It genuinely bothered him that I didn’t give a rat’s ass about trying to defend MSNBC and that I didn’t get outraged by his constant parroting of something he picked up from Bullshit Mountain. Same went for him calling Rachel Maddow “Madcow”. It’s funny to watch how much these people calling everyone else “snowflakes” have meltdowns when others don’t play the game they imagined was going to happen…we don’t tend to be in a cult like these gomers.

So yeah, this douchenozzle calling a paper reporting embarrassing news about him “Woklahoman” tracks…
