While I cannot assume I know jerkface’s stance, what they may be saying is that it is not great to equate pedophilia and child molestation because many pedophiles seek professional and personal interventions based on their attractions. Often, they take severe measures to keep themselves away from children because they do not want to hurt said children. Saying all pedophiles are child molesters disincentivizes people from seeking help from psychological and medical professionals when they may most need it. Thanks for listening. Cheers.
Furthermore, MOST CHILD MOLESTERS ARE NOT PEDOPHILES, despite what our esteemed moderator might think. People don’t assault children because they are fucking sexually attracted to children, any more than they assault women because they are sexually attracted to women. Read a fucking book once, moderator. Sexual assault is not about sexual attraction! It’s almost always about power and trauma. Most children are assaulted by family members and other people they have a personal relationship with in a cycle of abuse and trauma, not some rando who gets hot for children. That is such a rare occurrence, but people have some kind of weird need to believe it’s only practiced by people who are attracted to children. They live in a fucking cartoon world.
