Now all those American players can go back to their Canadian teams and continue to suck in the playoffs and never win a cup.

Probably. I’ve seen some Leafs’ fans declare they’ve jumped ship, for the rest of the season at least.

One said they feel bad for the Eastern Conference bc there won’t be a “Get Out of 1st Round Free” card since the Leafs won’t make the playoffs.

It may be worth it if you had a chance to say ‘how tiny’ as you clasped his hand. Though representing the NHL not like they could do that, or most people in his insulated environment.

Professional sports are state sponsored to promote patriotism. Sports leagues are made to empower and legitimize people like Trump.

As a European, I disagree hard on this. Sports is mostly about community, local clubs and entertainment for the 9-5 worker. To have something that takes away the thoughts of the housing loan, ensurance bills, health, kids, job, etc.

Something from this podcast stood out to me.

He talks about how Austin Matthews is a great guy because he spends a lot of time at Sick Kids playing with the children. Does Austin sucking up to known big league pedofile Trump cast that in a different type of light? Just speculating.

The single most important purity test is Trump. Abraham Lincoln, Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., Mr Rogers, and uhh Eleanor Roosevelt would instantly become terrible people if they shook Trump’s hand, regardless of anything else they did or accomplished in life. That’s how it works. It’s like King Midas kinda.

Wow! That guy is more angrier than that Canadian curling guy! I can’t fault the team players for being thrown into that weird political situation. They will laugh at almost anything that is intended to be a joke just to show welcoming respect to authority (even if they don’t mean it and even if it is wrong to do so). Their visit to the SOTU address is more about the committees running things than about the players.

Does someone have a citation on the threats?

I’d heard him mention he wanted Canada to join the US, I’d not heard him threatening it, nor bringing tanks to the border.

I think the tariffs are apart of the “threat” … he said he would remove them if we "joined. The thing with Trump is he says that he doesn’t “need” anything about Canada and then talk about all the freshwater we have. So it’s a lot of “dog whistling” mixed in with actions like the tariffs whenever we do things like make deals with China.

Ah, I tend to believe every country should have the ability to control their own trade policy. Paul Krugman a far left leaning economist called it a more politically expedient VAT tax, which most US economists say we need a VAT due to massive US debt accrual.

        https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TJYqvK_oVN8

It is a tax, and generates revenue for the US, which is something many left leaning people want for things like a minimum income. I’d be curious if a Democrat did it and used the proceeds to establish a minimum income would people be seething with rage and calling it a betrayal?

Get fucked. It’s 3 seconds on google to find reputable articles about his threats to canada, videos of him threatening canada, or even his own fucking posts on truth social.

The only reason it hasn’t happened is because his people distracted him with invading Venezuela, then threatening Greenland, then Iran, now Cuba, or maybe still Iran.

What’s wrong with you? There’s active‑duty military personnel deployed in Canada, yet you seem to ignore that the United States, arguably the most heavily armed and volatile nation on the planet, shares a border with Canada. I don’t care that you haven’t shown up at my door with a loaded gun and threatened me personally. The letters you sent, the posts you made, and the fact that my neighbor is armed to the teeth are already more than enough to make me feel unsafe. It’s enough to imagine our entire apartment building turning into a “crater of doom” without you even leaving your unit. That’s how fucking armed you are.

Mostly a league made up of wealthy white folk from upper-middleclass upper class families that tend to be conservative. Sometimes you hear of an outlier (Bobby Ryan for example). But you have to be wealthy to afford to play the sport.

I love hockey, dont get me wrong. But demographics are demographics.

That’s wild to hear. I always thought of hockey as a sport of diplomacy. It’s heart breaking to hear the ethical hockey players are choosing a more aggressive approach to politics. The “might makes right” viewpoint.

It you are playing hockey the goal is finding a solution not just hurting people until you win.

      Very disappointing.

      Satire.

You can play with year old balls just fine, they’re just less bouncy. Which is actually what i recommend for new players since they tend to get a bit more control that way. I never had lessons. Just ran around for fun.
