Trump has said that the United States shouldn’t have midterm elections this year because midterm voters often vote against the president’s party. Democratic congressional leaders have said they expect Trump to disrupt and dispute the midterms.

“It’s some deep psychological thing, but when you win the presidency, you don’t win the midterms,” Trump told Reuters in a recent interview. He then boasted that his presidency had accomplished so much that “when you think about it, we shouldn’t even have an election.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told the Associated Press that Democrats are concerned that Trump will try to prevent open and fair midterm elections.

I dunno, Biden performed better than expected and he’s a sleepy old guy. Is trump saying he’s no better than a sleepy old guy?

Better than expected? You expected less than 40 pc approval for 3 years, then forcing an unwinnable candidate and strategy for make or break 24 elections?

Just, wow. No wonder “we” lost. You are as delusional as republicans clearly nothing will free you from your influencers leading you astray.

Popular reform is the only path out of the abyss, and it is so much more of a trecherous path now than 2024.

I’m sure trump is going to call for the mid-terms elections to be cancelled. We’ll still have them, but it will give cover for gerrymandered red-states to reduce their efforts to make voting available and visible to their citizen.

If the elections go south for Republicans, I fully expect Mike Johnson to play games with allowing Democrats to be sworn in and seated in Congress. We really need to be preparing for both of these scenarios.

He will declare that Dems cheated everywhere they win, and if the House tries anything, he will declare they are traitors and declare state of emergency claiming absolute power (or whatever other made up shit).

Time to count who sides with whom in the military…

The military has already taken Trump’s side, and are gladly following his illegal orders to murder Venezuelan fishermen and kidnap their president.

I think you’re absolutely right, as it draws near we will get a steadily increasing narrative how elections are rigged, there’s massive corruption in voting systems (the paper is chinese!) and many other distracting nonsense claims.

But what they have overreached on over and over again is they are broadly very stupid people, and they can’t grasp the scale of this country and the people. I’m sure there will be election shenanigans but I doubt it will be enough to turn the tide. If they try to cancel any elections outright, while people are this tense and ready to riot, there will be widescale violence. Which the administration may want, but no town mayors or state governors want. The states still hold the cards here.

Wow it’s almost as though midterms represent some kind of check and balance. Trump and the republicans stand a good chance of being wiped out.

By definition, midterm elections are not Presidential elections. Trump’s third term, if he had one, would start in 2029 after an election in 2028.

If the voters dont help the opposition make gains and the republicans (read: trump) retain control of congress and the senate, whats to stop him/ them from changing the rules and locking him in come 2028? Seriously? You people dont see the importance of this midterm vote in the longer tern, and want to argue about definitions? He even said he’d do it. Remind you of any previous elections?

Republicans WON the house. That is not a victory for democrats, losing by less, in the house at that, majority rule.

Democrats never win the house or senate, the republicans lose it as people mostly vote against them not for democrats. Until you fix that, all energy in politics is ultimately futile. New Deal or republican rule.

And it might be too late already, because you all trusted the establishment to know what they are doing. Still believing their reason for being is winning elections, when it is preventing popular reform.
