Senator Alex Padilla (D-Ca), interrupted and arrested while asking questions of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem related to ICE. She’s the former South Dakota governor who spent $5 million of her state’s COVID money on a tourism campaign. You might remember the dept of Homeland Security was created (along with the term “homeland”) by George “Dubya” Bush after 9/11, as “not a whole new agency” but a reorganization of parts of existing agencies, to coordinate their work (to protect Freedom™). Their budget this year is $107 billion. Sound like a whole lotta coordinatin’ goin’ on.

They’re really targeting California as a whole now. The state that supported the union so much over history. Republicans must really feel jealous that it is the richest state.

Also because it’s the largest progressive state in size. If they can take down California then they will cheer it on as a major victory. Next up on the hit list the other blue states, Canada and finally Europe.

Can USians at least try to save their country without immediately calling for secession? It’s so strange that people want to leave the States and break it apart without first making an effort.

T bag loves a good wall. The problem every time secession comes up is it’s not north vs south anymore, it’s city versus rural. I live in a small city in one of the most conservative states in the US. My state voted for Trump by the highest margin in the nation, both times.

From where I’m sitting right now on my porch, I can see two pride flags flying in my immediate neighborhood. Our mayor is a Democrat and she’s actually not horrible.

But if you go just a bit outside the city, those pride flags are replaced by traitor flags. You almost completely stop seeing nonwhite people, just a bit outside the tiny cities.

It’s not that bad everywhere, but if you think there aren’t a shitload of bootlicking fascists in rural California you will be very surprised. 38% of the state voted for Trump. More than 15 Roughly 6 million Californians. EDIT- I mathed bad

I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I doubt secession is in the cards for anyone unless the Union is dissolved.

I like to remind people that 38% of votes is not 38% of the population approving of him. you have to consider that not all the eligible population voted, and those who are non-eligible likely aren’t licking his boots either. closer to 15% of the CA population voted for Trump, just over 6 million votes.

No, it’s not. Nothing irreversible has happened yet. People have been saying this since Dubya. I was there when people threatened to leave with every election, saying they would move to Canada because the country was done for, and it got so old so fast.

Consider that the only thing you’re doing is completing a self-fulfilling prophecy if you don’t resist.

And honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if some Russian social engineering campaign is encouraging people to follow this trend by repeating it on social media. Do not give in.

There is so much rot in congress, due to money. The fourth estate (the media) is also rotten to the core, due to money.

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission in 2010 is one of the irreversible things that happened already.

Seceding is probably not the right answer either, but it’s a serious uphill battle for We, the people, to regain control over Congress.

You threaten to withhold federal taxes.

Taxes are paid by individuals directly to the federal government. If an individual doesn’t pay their federal tax, the federal government goes after that individual. The federal government will take an individual’s money right out of their bank account. There’s no way for the state to withhold federal payments.

State taxes are filed separately and don’t go to the federal government.

I think you need to explain it. Because the vast majority of federal income is from federal income taxes which the state has absolutely no ability to stop. It’s between the federal government and the citizen. If the State of California secedes the people still have bank accounts that the federal government will seize.

Most countries “have plans” thats not the problem. The problem is threatening them publicly.

Its the militaries job to prepare for any event that might happen that includes times when taking another country might need to be done. I’m pretty sure the nz government probably has a plan to invade Australia just in case they need it.

Splitting a party in a FPTP system is the best way to ensure the opposing one keeps winning.

The choices are two: you either get a violent revolution started or you keep voting for the Dems. Anything else ranges from useless to deleterious.

Splitting the party? No, I mean creating a leftist party. I don’t want to split the Nazi-light liberal party, it’s filled with fascists and collaborators. let them continue to vote with actual fucking Nazis like the little brown shirts they are.

Yes the nazi is the better choice compared to the mentally unstable nazi. This is why dens are going to lose again and again until the country collapses and we’re rescued by someone invading us.

Yeah, our countrymen are dipshits, but let’s not undersell how complicit the Dems are by constantly choosing to run candidates that their voting base feels they have to vote for begrudgingly.

And let’s not pretend like the decision isn’t between unregulated capitalism, and fascism. Yes one is the better choice, but I mean Jesus Christ it’s like trying to decide if you want to die by injection in 10 years or being boiled alive today, you die either way.

Hard to win elections when your voting base can’t be excited about you. Hence why gop is winning, it’s easier for a fascist to appeal to a dipshit than it is for a capitalist to appeal to a voter with the ability to think for themselves.

So, my question when I run into that argument is: who do you think people would rally behind?

There’s always this assumption that the party has someone that they know would be super popular but they then make a conscious choice to run the most conservative person to the left of the Republican.

There are primaries. They’re made up of people who can get enough support. The local parties are closer to voters, and it’s much easier for people to join.
Somehow the people who consistently get elected are the sort of people they keep fielding as candidates.

So I’d love it if we had a great inspiring candidate. But literally who are they?

if you want to die by injection in 10 years or being boiled alive today, you die either way.

The first option at least gives tons of people extra time to escape to a more sane country.

          But yeah, fuck the dems.

So an unelected figurehead of the federal government has come to my state, had a senator I voted for arrested over asking a question which is his civic duty to ask, and has now made threats at removal of my elected govenor as well as an elected mayor of one of the cities here.

At which point would these actions be considered tyrannical enough to provide a decent argument for a use of the 2nd amendment in court?

The 2nd amendment just says the government can’t take away your guns. It doesn’t say anything about it being okay for you to use them against the government.

I mean, hell, police kill people all the time, but the courts treat having a gun on your person as a reason the cops had to shoot you. So they can’t take away the gun, but they can take away your life for having it.

Basically you can use it as a security blanket to rock yourself to sleep at night, but get anywhere near the gestapo with it and you die a “terrorist.”

Never, if we accept the intent of the 2nd amendment is to stop a tyrannical us government it does so be making sure you have the means for a rebellion (or the states actually). In that case you would not be judged for your actions like a criminal.

It of course does not apply to individuals taking action on their own (and they alone would not be able to bring down a regime). The best you could hope is a pardon/amnesty by a new pro democracy president/authority, if you are still alive.

haha you’re going to double down? like, I’m really trying to get through that first sentence and it’s total gore. at the very least there’s some missing punctuation but even when I try to put pauses in places where there should be commas it’s just a pile of lost plot. I’ve tried like 10 times and I don’t know why.

There’s some missing punctuation (and typos), in a social media post, written on a mobile phone, the horror! I 've switched to a PC with a proper, physical keyboard.

I am confused by your mention of pauses, are you reading it aloud and trying to split it when you need to breath? You should be identifying verbs, their subjects and their objects.

But I doubt either you, or the other downvoters do not actually understand my post. It’s far more likely you do, but it offends you.

It’s ironic that pro-democracy Americans can’t handle criticism of America’s mythology. Even more so, if you understand that using your, 2nd amendment protected, guns to stop tyranny is simply right wing propaganda to conceal their power fantasy of killing people they don’t like, with their 2nd amendment provided guns.

lol wut? in no way do I disagree with left wing politics. I just sincerely struggled to follow the content of the writing. I can usually glean the gist and in this case I could kinda sorta get it. but it really was more of a struggle than usual.

That’s a bridge that we’re just going to have to cross once they completely take over. We need them to have as much power as possible before we make a move. Also for the love of God don’t read, don’t protest, don’t act. Just wait.
