The fact that horrible fascist and billionaire ghouls living in their 90s+ while people that did nothing heinous or actual good in the world are dying of cancer, heart attacks, aneurysms etc.

It’s not fucking fair and and Billy Joel was right when he said only the good die young

Makes we believe that there isn’t any omnipotent being out there or perhaps this universe is the bad place

    Exceptionalism.

The kind that says “I’m special, but you aren’t”

The kind that lets billionaires exist and fuck with national politics and laws. The kind that lets rich people or corporations off of crimes with little or no punishment. The kind that lets a religious person use their religion to be shitty in any way, as a shield or a cudgel. The kind that lets someone festoon their pickup with LED lights and a squat so you’re blinded at night when they’re coming at you or tailgating you.

All of them think they’re special and the rules don’t apply, they don’t care how it affects those around them - or others are to be exploited.

I would like to add a holiday that once celebrated peace, but now celebrates militarism and war: Veterans Day (US). Not long ago, it was St. Martin’s day, a feast that commemorates a Roman soldier who abandoned his military office to become a monk. It was customary to sign peace treaties on his feast day for this reason. Included in this was Armistice Day, the end of World War 1. Eventually in the US this was changed to Veterans Day in 1954.

I hate how a lot of men make the rest of us look bad. Can we just chill out for a bit? Like, can guys stop beating on their wives, molesting children, raping, and murdering? Please? Idk what to do besides just be chill myself and try to encourage others to be the same. Let’s just read some books with some piano in the background.

Maybe you thought you were conveying more information than you were, but the comment I replied to literally just says “men=bad?”

How the fuck am I even supposed to interpret that as a reply to what I said?

Maybe take a look at the discussion before getting so angry and hostile. Your reply is a nonsense sentence fragment the ends in a question mark. Not exactly sure what you were trying to say.

nah bro, you don’t understand. you and anyone penis having adjacent are personally liable for the actions of every man…

        or so feminist theory says.

weird though that when a woman rapes a kid, or beats someone, or murders someone… not all women are responsible for her actions… she’s just some lone psycho…

I’m OK with hearing black people commit more low level crimes than white people.

I’ll take that over 7 out of 10 white men either fuck children or want to fuck children and 7 out of 10 white women are more likely to lie and make false allegations to avoid accountability for anything.

It really isn’t, that’s a whole other subject entirely filled with its separate issues i.e. oppression keeping black people impoverished, more wrongful arrests made on black people, etc.

It’s ironic that you’re getting angry about a comment where I’m asking men to chill out. Chill, go read a book with some piano in the background.

If you want to have meaningful discussion about the stats and how men are misrepresented by them, by all means present your case respectfully and we can discuss it further.

      It’s an absolute shit show.

Women have it bad. Honestly I don’t know how how you all have the patience to try to figure out which guy isn’t a psycho.

As a cis het man, I know that alone is enough to make some women say “pass”.

I feel like if men learned more about consent and empathy and stopped listening to assholes like Andrew Tate or Joe Rogan, we’d be in a much better state.

People succumbing to all those biases do suck, but also I think collectively it sucks when there are people out there padding those stats and feeding into those biases further.

So what? Most of us were never meant to be impactful, or even lack the ability to be impactful. I would posit that life in general was only ever meant for us to vibe with the universe for a brief time. In the span of epochs, and especially once humanity makes itself extinct, vanishingly little will have any material impact on even the planet, much less reality as a whole.

Unless you manage to trigger false vacuum decay. Then you have made the biggest possible impact by destroying the entire universe. Not sure this is an appropriate goal to reach for, but hey. You do you.

This drives me up the wall here on Lemmy and it manifests itself in so many ways. People just being outright shitty and calling each other names over a difference in opinion like “shitlib” rather than listening to what they’re saying.

Or even those who misinterpret why they’re being downvoted and start spitballing while using that as an opportunity to grind their axe. “Oh, poor me is being downvoted for having these perfect ideals, it’s the grander community who hates me, wah!” No, you’re just being hardheaded and causing your own problems, why are you blaming everyone else?

Recently and a slightly hot take: reckless drivers/cyclists. My take is that urban planning should be pedestrian-centric so… And yes, I did specifically include cyclists too: I would prefer to be hit by a bike rather than an automobile, but I’d much rather prefer to not be hit by either

I had a girlfriend from Copenhagen, and i’m from a pretty cyclist centric city myself. But visiting there was pretty darn amazing. You just have to watch where you walk, because they have big cyclists lanes and they are pretty used to the fact that people don’t walk on them

you are so cool, edgy or more interesting for that.

But honestly, I think you should have (read: engage with/not ignore) things you dislike, as long as there is an equal or higher amount of things that you do like. The problems usually start when people can’t regulate their emotions and start attacking others for liking/disliking something.

I think you are right about what causes things to go bad irl, but I actually most dislike what these reactions do to media. And there I think emotional regulation would not be sufficient for better results. Disliking would need to not be engaging in the way it is.
